Our freeze-dried couscous (called "Couscous Aventurier") is one of our most popular freeze-dried products among hikers. Discover in this blog post everything you need to know about this meal in four questions .
Where does the name “Couscous Aventurier” come from?
Treko was born during the Shawinigan Startup Weekend in 2018. During this 54-hour business creation competition, our team of 8 participants decided to offer a dehydrated couscous dish during the final pitch to impress the judges. The name of the fictitious product was Couscous Aventurier .
During our product development period, we decided to keep this name for our freeze-dried couscous.
How was this freeze-dried couscous developed?
Couscous Aventurier was developed with the aim of having a complete meal that was already recognized as a classic freeze-dried food for hiking.
We wanted to have something with a lot of vegetables in it because there was a gap in the market for this type of product. It was also important to us that it be filling and allow you to regain a lot of energy after a long physical activity.
Currently this product contains 5 different vegetables adding a lot of color to the meal.
What are proteins?
We included 2 sources of protein in it: chickpeas and tempeh. These 2 foods complement each other wonderfully because they contain complementary amino acids.
And that's how our Couscous Aventurier is quite filling, even for the biggest eater!
How can we prepare this freeze-dried couscous?
You might think that the only way to enjoy our Couscous Aventurier would be to simply mix it with hot water. Today, we have discovered an additional method of preparation:
Add cold water
Some explorers, due to lack of time and the desire to save weight, decide to eat their freeze-dried couscous without using a burner. That is to say, they use the "Cold Soaking" method , which consists of putting cold water in the bag and letting it rest.
