This mountain range owes the maintenance of its access trails to its committed volunteers. This year, we thank them with a good hot meal!

Contribute now to send Treko meals to volunteers for the next Monts Groulx clean-up here.

The Groulx Mountains are a mountain range located near the Manicouagan reservoir, north of Baie-Comeau, that attracts the attention of the most adventurous Quebec hikers. After Carl and I passed through, we fell under the spell of its northern landscapes.

The Groulx Mountains, an enriching experience

Attempting to cross the Groulx Mountains is a challenge that most people plan in advance, and that many choose to do with a guide.

With an average length of 35 to 45 km in total, the crossing begins with the climb towards the mountain plateaus, using one of the two access trails. Afterwards, we continue the rest of the journey with maps, compasses and GPS to reach the second access trail. The plateaus offer an impressive unobstructed view. In the distance, we can clearly see the Manicouagan reservoir. The experience is poignant: We are alone in the world.

The hike is difficult, and not without risks. If something goes wrong, there is little chance that you will be found if you have not taken precautions! This is why safety planning is not taken lightly by backpackers who venture there.

What is chore?

A few times a year, volunteer members of the Friends of Monts Groulx association meet to maintain the access trails. The site has three, totaling 28 km in winter.

At the beginning of February 2020, the team will meet to do the first trail maintenance for the winter season.

How can you help?

In partnership with the Friends of the Monts Groulx, Treko has chosen to offer food for the volunteers of the next clean-up, under the principle of "one for you, one for the Monts Groulx". How does it work? Go to our crowdfunding campaign, on La Ruche Mauricie . You will find a reward that allows you to pre-order a Treko meal for yourself, and send one to the volunteers!

Once we have purchased 16 meals for the Monts Groulx, we will bring them to the drive in person, as volunteers for the event!
