One of the great classics of long-distance hiking meals is definitely a good comforting chili after a long day of hiking. So we came out with our own vegan version of this traditional dish in September 2023. We called it: Chili Without Limits. What are the main ingredients in this chili?

Our goal in releasing a freeze-dried chili was to have a product that (still) stands out from the competition while remaining true to our values. That's why in terms of protein we opted for red beans as well as seasoned tofu .

For the vegetables, we mainly included fresh tomatoes , colorful green peppers , and crunchy corn . The choice to use green peppers comes from the fact that this vegetable is often overlooked in general cooking and added a nice color to this hiking chili.

How was this freeze-dried product developed?

The development of this product literally took about 3 years . There were several challenges before we could finally launch the Unlimited Chili.

In fact, the first version of the product contained two types of beans , but we found that this was a lot of legumes in the product. That's why we decided to put seasoned tofu in it instead, giving it a texture reminiscent of a traditional hiking chili .

The next challenge was to find the best blend of spices to season said tofu so that it could integrate well into the recipe. This obviously took some time.

Finally, it is not our intention to put a product on sale half-finished. We want to make sure to have a product ready before officially launching it for your next hikes. This is why we have on our online store the surprise prototypes where you can discover our potential new products or product variations

Where does the name “Chili without limits” come from?

From December 2022 to January 2023, explorer Caroline Côté broke a world record by reaching the South Pole in 34 days . We had the opportunity to give her freeze-dried products , including prototypes of what would become the Unlimited Chili. Therefore, this product was used in the worst possible conditions, so this chili has no limits and can be used in any condition.

By collaborating, we were able to make ourselves known throughout Quebec. In fact, we appeared on the show À vos Affaires in December 2022, among other things.

Caroline released her first book in 2018, entitled "Dépasser ses limites: 6 récits d'aventures" . In it, she tells how she had to persevere in the face of the elements and push herself beyond her limits.

With all these elements it was natural for us to give it the name "Chili sans limite". It was for us a tribute to Caroline as well as a way to thank her for her help.

The Quebec explorer will release her next book in November 2023, which will talk about her epic adventure in Antarctica. Maybe Treko will be mentioned in it?
